Our Story

The Malden Irish American Club has been a place for friendship, heritage and community for more than seven decades.

Our story officially began on October 17, 1954, when the first meeting of the Irish American Club of Malden, Massachusetts was held. Thomas J. Kelly served as the Club’s first President, joined by Vice President Patrick F. Shannon, Secretary Thomas J. Kelliher, Treasurer Edward C. O’Neil and Inside Guard Arthur E. Kierstead. Alongside them was an extraordinary group of founding members whose names remain part of our history today. What they started in 1954 was about more than establishing a club. They created a place where people could gather, build friendships, celebrate their Irish heritage and support one another and their community. More than 70 years later, that spirit remains at the heart of who we are.

The Malden Irish American Club is proud of its Irish roots and its longstanding connection to veterans. Today’s mission also includes bringing people together. We’re a place to meet old friends and make new ones. A place to watch a game, enjoy live music, attend a family event, celebrate Irish culture or simply pull up a chair and spend some time with good people. Throughout the year, our Club hosts social events, live entertainment, sporting events, family activities, fundraisers and community gatherings. We are also proud to support charitable causes and the people and organizations that make a difference in our community. Most importantly, you don’t have to be Irish to feel welcome here.

We believe the best way to honor the men who gathered together in 1954 isn’t simply to preserve what they created, it’s to keep it alive. That means welcoming new members, involving younger generations, supporting our longtime members, celebrating our heritage and continuing to make the Club a place that people are proud to call their own. The names and faces may change with each generation, but the purpose remains remarkably similar to what it was in 1954: Friendship. Heritage. Community.
